JUBILEE QUEEN CARNIVAL

OPENING THE CAMPAIGN.

TO-MORROW'S GAIETY. The organisation for running the Jubilee Queen Carnival is now complete, and the committees of each Candidate are fully prepared with attractions to induce votes for their representatives. The central' executive in charge of the competition, under the chairmanship of Mr J. C. Robins, has done a great deal of work, ensuring that everything will run smoothly. ' After very full consideration it has been decided to hold a united opening function to give the competition a good start. A guessing competition has been arranged. A watch will be wound and then placed in a shop, window, and the person guessing nearest to the time at which the watch stops' will be adjudged the winner. The Mayor (Mr J. W. McMillan) has consented to act a s the central figure in the function, and a procession i s being arranged in order to create the requisite atmosphere of gaiety. . H #?|s The three candidates will be introduced to the public from a decorated lorry. Bunting will be displayed across Broadway, and it is hoped that this will attract the' attention of those returning by car from the Hawera races and induce them .to stay in Stratford and swell the crowd.

It isi hoped that the candidates' icommittees will take advantage of the opportunity to organise "stunts" which will add to the pleasure of the function. There i s every indication that the function will provide a good evening's amusement, and no effort is being spared in order to make it go with a swing. SACRED CONCERT, SUNDAY. The first of a series of concerts for the Mount Egmout candidate will be given on Sunday at the King's Theatre, when a sacred concert of outstanding merit is to be given. Details of the programme will be advertised to-morrow. CANDIDATE INDISPOSED. Miss Noeline Massey, ih o Band and Fire Brigade candidate, is at present confined to her home by indisposition.

If she is still unwell to-morrow her sister will take her place at the public presentation of candidates in the evening. THE UGLY MEN. The Band-Fire Brigade committee have formed an Ugly Men's Association. In a shop in (own there will be seen a blackboard on which will appear a notice signed by the President. The presidency will be a moveable office. The person whose name appears on the hoard can have his name erased on payment of a ; shilling, and he will then be entitled to nominate somebody else for the presidency. TRIP TO TANCAUAKAU.
