THE ROAD RACE
TIMARU To CHRISTCHURCH. CYCLISTS MAKE A START. P«r jLßKoclbtion. TIMARU, This Day. Last evening rain commenced to fall and continued intermittently throughout the night, but was not heavy at any fime and it is considered it will not seriously affect the Timaru to Christchurch road race. The morning broke bright, the rain having cleared, and the race started under ideal conditions. Of the IIG entrants 102 faced the starter, in the presence of two thousand spectators. The first batch of thirteen got off punctually at 9.10 a.m., and the second of seven at 9.15, and the third of four at' 9.16 a.m. A cyclist who cam© through this morning stated that the road from Timaru to Rakaia is in excellent condition' hut from the latter place to Dunsamlel may prove troublesome.
