man GORED by bull. Ashburton, October 24. Thomas Stewart, of Rakaia. ag f GO, was admitted to the Ashburton Hospital suffering from extensive injuries, the result of being goiod hj a bull this morning. Stewart, who is a. laborer, was badly injured in the head,, face and, groin. He also had his chest crushed and one i"iig damage. The condition of the injured man is dangerous. FAILURE OF FIRE CLAIM, Christchurch, October 24.
After a. hearing lasting four days before Mr Justice Reed and a special jury of twelve, a verdict was found for the defendant in the case in which Jeremiah Boyd and his wife claimed £1325 1/s from, John Robert 'Timelier as damages,, for loss by a litre which allegedly spread from, tee latter’s property to the plaintiff’s.

Mr W D. Hunt , well known in commercial circles, has presented the Invercargill Pliwikefc Society with the homestead block of Caiufield Estate. The gift comprises a commodious residence l and twelve aores of land, valued at nearly £SOOO, which is to be used as a Karitane Home.

Flarly this morning a hr© was discovered in Welding's garage in Clastic Street, a new building. The fire was in a front portion and the brigade, attacking from the rear,, saved 21 cars housed in the front. The fire badly damaged the furnishings, and the stock of motor parts Was mined. The adjoining premises, occupied by H. Brien, upholsterer, were also damaged. The buildings were insured for £4OOO in the Yorkshire offices •*■■■- ”
MOTOR VEHICLES BILL.

Tn the Legislative Council to-night Sir Francis Bell introduced amendments to clauses 27, 28 and 29 of the Motor Vehicles Bill dealing with the penalties for reckless driving and resultant bodily injury or death. The ..clauses were merely rearranged in new legal phraseology and provision was made/ that no person shall, in respect of the same act or acts arising out of the same circumstances, h| ; indicted for reckless or negligent driving and also for manslaughter.
