MOTORIST FINED A HUNDRED

OFFICER'S MANy CONVICTIONS.

Captain Malcolm D. G. Drummond, of Elizabeth Street, Pimh'co, was summoned by the police before Mr Marshal] at the South-Western Police Caurt, London, for driving a car at a dangerous speed, also for fraudulently using a license and identification plate.

Mr Parker, prosecuting, said that while every sympathy must bo felt for the defendant, who took part in the war and now had two artificial legs, he (Mr Barker) was bound to say that when driving his car Captain Drummond seemed to show a reckless disregard for the safety of tin public. On October 13 last * the defendant travelled to Putney Hill at a speed estimated at 50 miles an hour, and when forced to stop lie produced a license made out to John A. Arbutnot, of Grafton Street, W. The defendant had his license suspended after a conviction at Marlborough Street Police Court for exceeding the speed limit, and the suggestion was that two days later, on July 11 last, be obtained another license under a false name, and altered the plate number of the car to correspond. The police, added Air Parser, had the greatest difficulty in tracing the defendant. Special observation was kept in Piccadilly for several days, and finally the defendant was seen to leave the Naval and Military Club. He then denied being Captain Drummond, and said he was in Franco on October 13.

The defendant, giving evidence, asserted that the license was lent him by a workman at a garage. He admitted lie told a lie when saying ho was in France on October 13. Mr Barker, replying to the Magistrate, said the defendant had been convicted in the Metropolian area no fewer than ,'SO times. He was, in fact, a public danger.

Mr Marshall imposed penalties amounting in all to £IOO, with £lO IPs costs. Ho directed that the de-f-'iulnnt. should be disqualified from driving a ear for a period of two years.
