TRANS-ATLANTIC FLIGHTS
NOVEL ENGINEERING PLAN.
FERRQ-CONCRETE ISLANDS.
(Sim Cable). (Received 10.30 a.m.) Paris. May 15
M. DoTVasse, an engineer, publishes a remarkable scheme for a trans-Atlan£"ic of which the naval Hying experts approve. The scheme provides for the construction of four ferro-concrete islands costing three millions each. The island will be boat-shaped, of sufficient height to prevent the largest waves washing over, and equipped with Deisel engines giving a speed of five knots, enabling the island to resist the action of wind and tides, equilibrium and stability being ensured by ballast. Each island will contain an enclosed dock thirty to forty feet deep, 1000 feet long, and 300 feet broad, upon which seaplanes may berth, also hotels for passengers, as well as r?pair shops, ,n__ wireless station, and weather bureau. Powerful beacons will be provided to mark the positions of the islands.
