Advices from Peshawur state that opposition among the tribe s in Koath has been aroused by certain reforms which have been put into effect by the Amir of Afghanista i, and which are looked upon as interfering with the Mohammedan law. The result has been an outbreak of hostilities.

It appears that the Mangal Ladran tribal forces ambushed an Afghan Regiment and captured riilcs and ammunition. This was followed by a general outbreak. It is reported that the rebels either forced or persuaded some of the smaller Afghan outposts to surrender, and also attacked the Afghan regular s at various points. The Afghan troops are said *o have gained some successes. Reinforcements have been despatched.
