UPLAND ROAD FATALITY. Suffering from Revere injuries to his head, Alfred Chard, aged Gi), a : dairy .farmer residing On the Upland Road, near Egmont Village, was found on the roadside on. Saturday night, and he died in the Nov.- Plymouth hospital at. Chlß yesterday morning. Chard was driving home along in ft gig from [ltglewood at about 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, and when about two miles from Ids destination, either his horse stumbled and threw Chard out on to his head or the backhand breaking caused the vehicle to tip and ""hrow him out on to the road. The "norse was found about tTfty yards beyond the scene of the •lecident with the .backhand of its harness broken.

Although he was conscious when discovered by Mr T. Murphy, the unfortunate man fell into unconsciousness almost immediately afterwards, and remained so til! tne time of his death. He was removed to his home, where, ho was attended by a doctor, who, on making an examination, stated that Chard was suffering from a fracture of the skull. The injured man was taken to the New Plymouth hospital, where lie arrived about midnight, and passed away without regaining consciousness. The, deceased leaves a widow' and a grown up family of eight.
