The Town Clock

SUM ON THE ESTIMATES. REMISSION OP DUTY. The proposal of the Stratford Borough Council to erect a clock in the tower of the new Post Office is causing quite a lot of interest, and the Council is naturally anxious to secure as large a reduction as possible in the" purchase. With a view of doing so, the Council communiated with Mr R. Masters, M.P., asking him to use his best endeavours to allow the clock to be admitted free of duty. Tlio Member for Stratford has received a reply from the Minister of Internal Affairs stating that he has decided to place a sum on the Estimates for the financial year ' 1924-5 to enable duty to be remitted on the clock, which the Council propose to import as a War Memorial.

It is assumed that the clock will be imported at New Plymouth, and the Collector of Customs there will be authorised to admit it free of duty, pending the passing of the item next year.
