OBITUARY

JAPANESE PREMIER’S FUNERAL. (Reuter Service.) (Received 10.30 a.m.) Tokio, August 29. The funeral of the late Premier Kato was held with Shinto rites, and all naval honours befitting the rank of a Fleet Admiral. Flags were flown half-mast on the warships, which fired a salute at the time of the ceremony. The ceremony was carried out at the official residence, being attended by representatives of their Majesties and the Regent. Princes Kanin, Nashlmoto, and Kaya, personally attended. The Diplomatic Corps, members of the Cabinet, and others were present, whereafter the public were admitted to pay tribute to the dead statesman.

The interment was purely a family affair.

The son of the Gaekwar of Baroda and not the Gaewkar is dead. The London newspapers; published long obituary notices of the Gaekwar. The death occurred at Cambridge on Monday of Mr George Dickinson, one of the best-known public men in the Cambridge district. Deceased had long been associated with Cambridge affairs, having been a borough councillor for a number of years, and afterwards Mayor for three or four years. He had also been a valued member of the Waikato Hospital Board for many years.
