A crack ten ieet wide opened in the side of the volcano Kilauea, causing a. riven of lava to pour clown tno mountain side, while tho surrounding area, wa s shaken by an earthquake. Molten rock is pouring into the fissure, the roar of which is audible at a distance of a mile.

Mr. Thomas Bales, supreintendent of the Kilauea National Park, visited the scene, but he was unable to make a detailed survey of the outburst baraute dense smoke envelops the locality.
