"Why are You Here?”

NEW DECLARATION. NO OATH OF LOYALTY. A new form of declaration to be made by persons arriving in Now Zealand is contained in the “Gazette©” issued on Thursday evening. Following is portion of the declaration to be made by persons arriving in New Zealand; — Pull name, sex, nationality. If you are a naturalised British subject— When and where were you na turalisod ? What was your former nationality? To what race of people do you belong? (European, Chinese, Japan ese, etc.) Arc you bringing with you any firearms, ammunition, or explosive? State particulars of children under fifteen years of ago arriving with parent or guardian:—Full name, sex, ago, race or people, country where born. Ar© you a permanent resident of Now Zealand leturning thereto after a temporary absence? If so — How long have you been absent therefrom ? What is your usual place of resi deuce therein? NON-PERMANENT RESIDENTS. if you ar© not a permanent resident of New Zealand returning thereto after a temporary absence— What is your occupation? Where were you born? Where was your father born? Where was your mother born? What will ho your address while in New Zealand? In what country were you last permanently resident? ; Do you intend to become permanently resident in New Zealand? If so, state whethe* you are single, married, widowed, or divorced? WHY ARE YOU HERE? The final question—after answering the usual questions—is:— If you do not intend to become permanently resident in New Zealand—

What is the purpose of your visit (e.g., as a tourist or commercial traveller, or °u business, or for theatrical purposes); What is the date of your intended departure from New Zear land ? What ig your usual place of residence outside New Zealand ? The oath of loyalty to which such strong objection was taken—not because people were actually disloyal, but because they considered the each unnecessary in the case of loyal people, and no deterrent to the disloyal individual—has been done away with.
