Bankrupt Taxi-Driver

FOUR MONTHS' HARD LABOR.

Per Press Association,

Wellington, August 2o

C. E. Donnelly, a bankrupt taxidriver, was charged with failure to keep proper books for three years.

The Crown Prosecutor contended this was done to hide transactions from his creditors. Defendant had been throning his money away, ami one one occasion spent £4O going to Auckland to attend a golden wedding. For the defence, counsel said his client suffered from excess of optimism, and- had bad luck in investments.

Tire S.M. said this had nothing to do with the charge, and inflicted a sentence of four months’ hard labour.
