Williams and Washburn defeated Anderson and Hawkes 7—5, 2 — G. G...2, 6—4 in the semi-final of the national doubled. This eliminates the Australians from the doubles championship. Williams and Washburn play the winner of the match, Tilden and Noreon v. Alonzo and Johnston, for the title on Saturday. The match was rather disappointing, for all the four were never in the game at once, the result being brilliant patches, intermingled with periods of poor play. The Australians started well, and got a lead of 4—l, but Hawkes then dropped his service, and that tfas the end of his steadiness. He became erratic thereafter.
