Sir James Allen says : “I was very pleased with the cemeteries, both afc regards the site and the progress. Nearly all have a commanding outlook. They were designed by Sir John Barnett and should give satisfaction to the people of New Zealand.” Tb© foundations have been laid for the New Zealand memorial at Chunuk Bair and the whole will be completed within ten weeks. On a beautiful site overlooking thq Aegean and the Dardanelles, it will be a dignified monument, worthy of tho men who fell on Gallipoli. The general memorial at Helles will bear the names of the missing other than New Zealanders. It is impossible to select a finer site. The memorial stands on a promontory, from which! can be seen Imbrosr, tho Aegean Sea and the Dardanelles, Mr Mulville, a member of the firm of contractors, is a Now Zealander. S£r James Allen met many Australasians, including Colonel Hughes (deputydirector of works on Gallipoli), and Mr Jordan (vice-Consul at Constantinople), both of whom are Australians, and Captain Harper, of tho cruiser Resolution, who is a New Zealander.
