Her Excellency Viscountess Jellicoe and the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe leave for Japan and China on September 14th. They will be accompanied by Mr E. Burrows, cousin of the Gov-ernor-General.

Mr F. Lloyd, at one time Inglewood County Clerk, has jußt received the appointment of Assistant Town Clerk for the Borough; of Eastborne (Wellington). There were sixty applicants for the position.

The Te Kuiti citizens recently gave a public send-off and made presentations to Mr and Mrs G. P. Finlay on the occasion of their departure for Auckland, where they are taking up their residence. Mr Finlay was Mayor of Te Kuiti for four years, and has taken an active interest In the puplic affairs of the town and district. ... '

The health of the Minister of Lands (the Hon. D. H. Guthrie) continues to improve. Writing to a friend from Suva, where he is recuperating, Mr Guthrie says that, if his health improves as much in the next three weeks as in 'the last, he will be quite fit to resume his Ministerial duties.

Before the County Council meeting opened this morning, the chairman (Cr E. Walter) referred to the bereavement suffered by Mr E. S. Rutherfurd, a member of the firm who were the County's legal advisers. Cr. Walter said those who knew the late Mrs Rutherfurd could testify to the great help she had been to the district and could fully appreciate, the loss suffered by Mr Rutherfurd. The sympathy of Councillors would, he felt sure, be extended to Mr Rutherfurd, to the little ones left behind, and to the late Mrs Rutherfurd's parents. A motion of condolence was carried, members standing in silence.

An interesting ceremony took place at the Stratford A. & P. Association's office thi3 afternoon, when Mr W. 11. Rutledge, of Midhirst,. who is shortly leaving for Australia, was the recipient of an illuminated address from the members of the association as a token of appreciation of his services. Mr Rutledge has been a member of the general committee for the past eight years and at present is a member of the executive, and-was for a period of five years chairman of the pig section. The address, which is of an artistic design, bears a sketch of the Stratford Show grounds with a view of Mt. Egmont in the back ground, nicely executed by Mr J. McAllister, and is signed by Mr L, T. Aylward (President), Mr J. W. Boo R (vicepresident) and Mr A. J. Barr (secretary), in making the presentation, Mr Aylward referred to the loyal service'rendered to the association by Mr Rutledge, and to the keen interest shown by him in connection with agricultural matters. In asking him to accept the gift, ho trusted that he, Mrs Rutledge and family would enjoy the best of health and every future prosperity. Mr Rutledge suitably replied.
