ANNUAL MEETING. The chairman, Mr W. V. H&rknessy" presided at the annual meeting of shauvmolders of tho Tariki Dairy ; Co. j hold-yesterday; In moving the adaption of the report and balance-sheet the chairman said the past year had been ono of tlie most difficult since tlu* inception of the company. The directors had always followed tlie consigning policy, but last year tliat policy .was not the best course, During | tho year 295 cows, belonging to suppliers had Wen tested. The f-pp.aker drew attention to tho necessity for proper winter footing in addition to testing if the best t»*>i>um werg ta be oh sed. The buildings' were in good condition' but in a year or two a new factory at Tariki would be necessary.
Tlie Dairy Control Bill had been before the directors, and they were all strongly in favour of it. A meeting of the suppliers numbering fifteen also declared 'ln its favour. Mr Harkness. hoped something would come of it, even if they only got compulsory control of shipping. As far as prospects for the coming season were concerned, the longer one was in the bu/ : :i3ss the lessi ono eared to say about the prospects, because they were changing from month to month.. The general opinion w»as that prosnects- were good. The Empiro Exhibiton at Home would undoubtedly be a great help to the industry.
A supplier askod how the production of butter and casein compared with cheese, and the chairman said it was a practical impossibility tomake a comparison. He did not think there was very much difference, but the company had got the best out of everything. He believed that cheese was the better.
The election of directors to fill tho vacancies- on the directorate resulted in the return unopposed of Messrs 6. B. KnowTes and Kelleway junr., as representatives of Tar ki. A ballot resulted in the return of M r J. R Jones as- the rep.osentative of Rugby Road, Mr F. E. Mantey being the other candidate.
According to notice of motion, the chairman moved an amendment to the articles providing, among other things, for the election of directors irrespective of which factory they represented. After some discussion the motion was carried
The matter of disposal was left, in the hands of. the directors.
