The King and Queen, laid the foundation stone for an obstetric hospital and opened an anatomy building in connection with the University College which is the fi'st fruits of the gift of £120,000 from the Rockefeller Foundation. The King said it was the first time that any medical faun .la "ion received over one million from a single benefcitor. It was more impressive because it was bestowed by a citizen of the 1 - United States upon tl.|e people of Britain’. ■ u- ‘ > ■ The King added that the trustees of the ockfeeellor. Foundation were largely influenced by tlio fact that the unit system of medical teaching was established by the University College, whereby the chief branches of medical education were under heads who could devote thedr whole time to teaching research and hospital practice. This is a substantial development on the traditional British system, which entrusts clinical teaching to doctors .who are also private practitioners.
