WINTRY WEATHER.

SNOWFALL IN WAIRARAPA. Per Press Association. Masterton, September 18. A heavy fall of snow occurred at Masterton -and the surrounding country this afternoon. INCIDENT AT WELLINGTON. Per f re&s Associatfoci. Wellington, September 18. There was a- heavy downpour of rain last night, and further driving rains to-day, accompanied by. hail. During last night's fall a resident of Terrace Gardens was startled by a loud crash. Investigation showed that the concrete retaining wall at the back of the house had .collapsed, bursting in the back door and pushing in the walls of the house. A small child narrowly escaped death. The Minister of" Defence has received advice that the 42nd . Reinforcements had reported "health good" from a third port of call on September 1".

The practice of marching reinforcements over the Rimutakas, which hail been suspended for the winter, is to be resumed. The 44th infantry, at present at Featherston, will move to Trentham by road on September 20th.
