A remarkable record for school attendance is held by a pupil of the Napier High School, H, M. Fisk, who has not missed a half day during his ten years schooling. A preliminary announcement concerning a grand sacred concert by the Wanganui Garrison Band under the auspices > of the Stratiord Racing Club and the Stratford Patriotic Committee appears in an advertisement this evening. Those readers who remember the great pleasure afforded by the performances of this Band last New Year, when they played in the Ngaere Gardens, will welcome the opportunity of again' hearing them. Arrangements have been made to hold the concert this year in the Stratford A. and P. Association s Showgrounds, which will be an ideal site, and a very large crowd of the public are sure to be present. The annual concert in aid of the funds of the'Stratford School, to bo held in the Town Hall this evening, claims a programme on somewhat different lines to the general run of school functions of the kind. The absence of children’s items is duo to several causes, not the least of which is the most unusual circumstances which prevailed throughout the jeai, but especially in the closing weeks of the school, when the annual examinations were postponed on account of the illness of the Chief Inspector, the consequent disorganisation of tue work, and the lack of time in widen to tutor the children for the usual drills, songs, and dances, which appeal so largely to the public at these concerts. All difficulties notwithstanding, the programme for this evening is such as to prove a considerable attraction, the whole of the items being given by that patriotic band of darkle coons known as the Auzacs. With interlocutor Fred Foley, Bones Rowe, and Tambo Ward at the head of the circle, including such favorites as Miss Sheahsfn, Miss Groenlialgh, Miss Payne, Miss Rowe, Mrs Edmondson, Mr B. J. Peters, Mr G. T. Waiters, and an orchestra under the conductorship of Mr V. Lester, an enjoyable time is in store for patrons. The doors will he opened at 7.15, and the overture starts at a quarter to eight sharp, so as to allow of the programme being completed by ten o’clock, o. as near "thereafter as possible. The price of admission to the body of the hall is one shilling (children haltprice), and to the circle two shillings (no half-price).
