.Besides Lisheen, Aurora Australis, Black Light and True Range, Mr W. E. Hazlett’s team includes five novices all by the Grand Knight horse Sir Simper. A particularly fine type of three-year-old gelding is out of Lorette, and he is a brother to the National Steeplechase winner Anglo-French and a-half brother to a useful jumper in Colonel French. He is an exceptionally good type of juvenile, his dam, Lorette, being by Tractor from the Kilbroney mare Moulin Rouge, the dam of Latin Quarter, Frenchy, Colonel Rouge and others. A three-year-old gelding is out of the Paper Money mare Lucky Light, the dam of Hooting Light, Lucky Hoot and Rainbow Light. There is a close doubling of Simper blood in this pedigree, as Lucky Light was out of the imported mare Simper, the dam also of Sir Simper, sire of the three-year-old. A similarly-bred youngster in the team is a three-year-old from Glad Light (the dam of Pocket Flash). Glad Light was also got from Paper Money from Simper. A fourth three-year-old gelding is out of the Tractor mare Surge, and a four-year-old gelding is out of Divinial, the dam of Golden Lap and Turaki. The New Zealand star, Sleepy Fox, is in good shape for his first race in Sydney, which is expected to be the Canterbury Guineas (six furlongs, weight for age) next Saturday. He took the short distance honours at Randwick today, running half a mile in SOVi seconds, although not at top speed at the finish. Sleepy Fox carried a good weight in D. Munro. He ran the first two furlongs in 24 Yz seconds. He covered extra ground at the turn and was not hurried over the last furlong. This is the third time since his arrival in Sydney that Sleepy Fox has registered the best time for half a mile- at Randwick. RICCARTON ITEMS (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, August 28. (P.A.) WANGANUI, August 28. The Wanganui District Committee today reheard the appeal of I. Galvin, a jockey, against suspension arising out of the handling of Air Port in the Manawatu Winter Cup at Awapuni on June 16 and upheld its former decision to increase the. Manawatu Racing Club judicial committee’s sentence of three months’ suspension to six months. The appeal had been referred back to the committee by the Racing Conference judges for a rehearing. 4 CRICKET AT LORDS Dominions Team In Strong

Coming together when six down for 96, they added 184 runs for the seventh wicket. Hammond’s chanceless 121 included three sixes and 10. fours. Edrich hit six’ fours.
