MAGISTRATE’S COURT
MAN CHARGED WITH SERIOUS OFFENCE Edward Hansen, a labourer, of Invercargill, was charged with . indecent assault of a female child aged six years eight months. Detective-Sergeant R. Thompson asked for a remand until this morning. Referring to a request that bail be allowed the accused, Detective-Ser-geant Thompson said that the charge was a very serious one and if bail were allowed that it be substantial. The remand was granted, and bail was fixed at £2OO, one surety of £lOO and £lOO in accused’s own recognisance. Mr A. Smyth appeared on behalf of Hansen. Cecil Alexander Wright, labourer and journalist, appeared on remand and was charged with the theft of a Holy Bible, valued at 10/-, with issuing a valueless cheque to the value of 19/-, with the theft of two blankets, a bed cover and a table napkin valued at £2, and without lawful right having in his possession one Air Force greatcoat and two service caps. At the request of the detective-ser-geant a remand was granted until this morning. Bail of £5O was renewed. Mr F. E. R. Booth, J.P., was on the Bench.
