NO NATURAL RUBBER FOR MANUFACTURING

Position In Dominion Next Year (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 8. The opinion that- there would be no natural rubber for manufacturing purposes in New Zealand next year, was expressed by Mr D. L. Irwin, of Rubber Distributors Ltd., Wellington. He said that goods which required rubber in their manufacture would be made with synthetic material. The reason for this was that New Zealand was considered outside the war zone, and rubber producers did not think it necessary to export any more raw rubber to New Zealand manufacturers. Asked about the supply of hot water bottles, Mr Irwin said that there were 15,000 awaiting completion in a Wellington factory. Manufacturers could not get them finished because of the manpower difficulties. Normal pre-war distribution in New Zealand was 500,000 bottles, but the total distributed last year was only 90,000. This number included a small supply imported from America. He did not think there would be any improvement in the supply for some time.
