EAGLE FLIGHT’S NEXT

Phil Boa Reads Well At Oamaru MINTON SCHOOLING WELL Handicaps for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s winter meeting are due on May 14 and acceptances the following day. In Favour Eagle Flight is one who will come in for solid support in the hack mile at Oamaru on Saturday. Schooling Well The Nigger Minstrel gelding Minton has been shaping in pleasing style in his schooling over fences at Awapuni. Minton is now being trained by C. Boyle. Another Placing Ruling Moment, who finished second to Lex at Ashburton, has filled the same position six times in 14 starts this season. He won the Mclntosh Memorial, run at Westland on February 24. Had Every Chance Lou Hall had every chance in her race at Ashburton on Saturday when she finished in fifth place. The Dillon Hall mare will next race at Washdyke tomorrow week. 4»

Lance Wing Lance Wing was given a chance to freshen up after his Easter racing, and on the strength of his form earlier in the season he is entitled to be favourite for the Oamaru Cup tomorrow. Did Not Return Elation did not return to Southland after racing at Trentham recently and the Quite Sure gelding has joined W. J. Doyle’s Christchurch team. Useful Form Phil Boa’s recent form has been good enough to give him a royal chance in the Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase tomorrow. There was some merit in his second to Sir Percy at the Southland winter meeting. Stirling Castle The Southland two-year-old, Stirling Castle, is down to contest the Oamaru Juvenile Trotting Stakes tomorrow. The Dillon Hall gelding is expected to run out a better mile and a-quarter than the majority of two-year-olds raced so far this season. J. A. Rowland’s Team J. A. Rowland left during the week for Washdyke with Royal Chorus, Great Coon, Bright Feather and Ring Chief. He will make his head-quarters there until after the winter meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club. Surprising Dividend The most surprising feature of Red Setter’s win in the Rakaia Trot at Ashburton was the good double-figure dividend she returned. The previous week'she had finished third to Windermere at Washdyke after a successful trip to Wellington, and her record now reads two wins, and two seconds and four third placings in her last eight starts. Unfortunate Check

Saint Joachim was definitely unlucky in not taking part in the finish of his race at Ashburton. He was in a handy position behind the leaders turning for home, and when making a promising run on the outside of them nearing home, he was the victim of a severe check, which deprived him of any chance of a place. The Night Raid gelding suffered slight injuries to a leg by being galloped on. For Waslidyke Southland horses nominated for the South > Canterbury winter meeting on May 19 include the following: Alpine, Inscrutable, Minom, Royal Chorus, Black Light, Regatta, Sumra, Aurora Australis, Hunting Charm, Royal Writ, Great Coon, Bright Feather, Double Light, Pocket Flash, Depth Charge, Lost Art, Green Note, Ring Chief and Royal Flight.

Strong Following In most of his previous races, Boolamskee has failed to leave the barrier on favourable terms, and was hopelessly left in the hurdle event at Washdyke through backing when the barrier lifted. In spite of his bad habits, he was heavily supported at Ashburton, where he went away well, and was always one of the leaders, finishing a creditable second. Boolamskee is a five-year-old plain-looking gelding by Baffles from Veloce by Hunting Song from Oppidan by The Rand from Etona by Castor, and is a dashing jumper. He was not nominated for the Oamaru meeting. First Success

Whitley, winner of the Eiffelton Hack Handicap at Ashburton, is a four-year-
