LANCE WING AT OAMARU
TOMORROW’S WINTER MEETING Good class fields are engaged at the Oamaru Jockey Club’s winter meeting tomorrow. Lange Wing promises to be a good favourite for the Oamaru Cup in spite of his failures in his last two starts. The Irish Lancer gelding revealed some outstanding form earlier in the season and he should be capable of reproducing it here. Eastern Coin finished third to Immediate and Sister Sal in the Timaru Cup, and on the strength of that form he will have a big following. He has 41b more to carry, but his form under big weights in hack events at Riccarton last month was outstanding. A heavy track would enhance the claims of Hunting Charm and Arabian Night, while of those at the tail of the handicap Honest Sal has the best credentials. Gamble beat all but Burberry at Ashburton on Saturday, and this showing gives her a good chance here. Green Note, however, will be well suited and she can be expected to make a great race of it. Royal Rae disappointed on Saturday, but he is more capable than this form made him out to be, while Peter Gazelle will be all the better for the recent racing he has had. Win and place betting will operate and the first race will start at 11 a.m. Horses in form are:— 11 a.m. HACK AND HUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE—PhiI Boa, Strip, Double Light. 12.10 p.m. TRIAL HANDlCAP—Plutocrat, Killarney, Standby. 12.50 p.m. OAMARU JUVENILE TROTTING STAKES—Sprayman, Stirling Castle, Local Gold. 1.30 p.m. OAMARU WINTER CUP HANDICAP—Lance Wing, Eastern Coin, Honest Sal. 2.10 p.m. BURNSIDE HACK HANDICAP— Eulogia, Gold Lance, Sumra. 2.50 p.m. GRANGE HANDICAP—Green Note, Gamble. 3.30 p.m. WAIKAURA TROT HANDICAP— True Potts, Helen’s Worthy, Great Show. 4.10 p.m. FAREWELL HACK HANDICAP— Eagle Flight, Silver Mask, Lost Art.
