SALES OF HEALTH STAMPS AT GORE

Record sales of health stamps .were recorded at Gore as a result of special efforts on Friday and Saturday. Since the campaign began in October the value of health stamps sold has reached the sum of £303, which is £lOO more than the value of the stamps sold during the whole of the fivemonths campaign last year. As a result of the appeals on Friday and Saturday, £2lO was collected. The sum of £92 was collected in the business area on Friday, and the drive by postwomen on Saturday resulted in the collection of £llB from the residential area. The postmaster (Mr H. V. Ward) stated that, with three months still to go, the total proceeds of sales from all sources would exceed last year’s figures by 100 per cent. Appreciation has been expressed by the secretary of the Gore Health Camp Commitee (Mr Ward) and the chairman (Mr W. D. Shelton) of the splendid response to the appeal In Invercargill city £798 worth of health stamps had been purchased since the stamps became available on October 9. The sales for November totalled £2ll, compared with £135 for November last year. The figures for the whole of Southland for last month arc not yet available, but it is thought that the amount will be considerably more than that received in November last year, when the district sales totalled £306.
