BOXING

Bout Declared No-Contest (P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 6. A professional boxing contest between Jim Griffin (Wellington) and Clarrie Gordon (Auckland) tonight lasted exactly 2min 23sec. Ac this stage Griffin shot a right to Gordon’s head, the Aucklander going down for the full count. The announcer later informed the crowded house that the referee, Mr P. Stone, had declared the fight a nocontest. Mr Stone later stated that Gordon was certainly hit by a right on the head, but there was insufficient force in the blow to knock him out. Gordon’s seconds worked over him for some time before he left the ring.
