ST. JOHN CADETS

Conway Cup Competition

Efficient demonstrations were given last night at the St. John Ambulance Brigade hall, when cadets of the nursing divisions competed for the Conway Cup, showing parents and friends the practical use which could be made of training in first aid and bandaging. The cup was won by the cadets of the No. 3, Invercargill Nursing Division, with the No. 1 A team second. The judges were Miss Blakie, lady district officer, Mr W. R. Curwen, assistant commissioner for Southland, and Mr J. Bemrose, district officer. Mrs A. H. Aldridge organized the competitions, and the social side of the evening was in charge of Mrs W. S. Robbie. Sprays were presented by cadets to their leaders, Mrs P. Rout, Mrs J. Price and Miss A. Perry.

Grand Prior badges, the highest award for cadets were presented by Mrs J. R. Martin to Verna Ogier, Jean Gardner. Pat Smith, Margaret Craig (Invercargill No. 1 Cadet Nursing Division), Valma Price, Valerie Rodden (No. 2 Division) and Elvia Dale, Noeleen Orr, Joy Mackie, Shirley Cook and Dorothy Moorhouse (No. 3 Division). Service stripes were presented to the following members of the Invercargill Cadet Ambulance Division:—Ronald Nielson. Wallace Darnill, Ross Darnill, Brian Young, Ronald Shaw. Raymond Shaw (first stripes), and Arthur Cloake (first and second stripes). Service stars and stripes were awarded to the following members of the Invercargill Central Cadet Nursing Division:—Audrey Day, Fay Wilson, Marjorie Gibbs, Helen Young, Olwyn Robbie (service stars), Annace Bagley, Kathleen McKenzie, Shirley Couchman, Elizabeth Shaw (first stripes). Service stars and stripes were presented to the following members of the No. 1 and 2 Invercargill Cadet Nursing Divisions:—Mary Donaldson, Rosemarie Heslin, Jean Gardner, Floris Hall, Joyce Nutter, Joyce McCallum, Vilma Wilson, Valma Price, Verna Ogier, Margaret Craig, Betty McKay, Betty Sharp, Avis Price (service stars), Ruth Ladbrook and Molly McArthur (second stripes).
