SOUTHLAND OMITTED

Limited Amount Of Flying

The Lancaster bomber at present visiting New Zealand will not come to Southland. This advice has been received by the Southland Progress League from the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) in reply to representations made by the league that Invercargill should be included in the tour of the bomber.

In a telegram to the league Mr Jones stated that because of the long scheduled flight ahead only a limited amount of flying could be done in New Zealand and the captain of the aircraft therefore regretted that he would be unable to include Southland in his tour.
