INDUSTRIAL TARGETS ATTACKED
Liberators And Fortresses
(8.0.W.) RUGBY, - October 22. More than 1100 United States heavy bombers today attacked industrial and communication targets in the Hamm, Munster, Hanover and Brunswick areas in Germany. The Liberators and Flying Fortresses were escorted by more than 750 United States Thunderbolts and Mustangs.
This afternoon Royal Air Force Lancasters, escorted by fighters, made a heavy attack on Neuss, a satellite town of Dusseldorf and a railway centre and inland port on the west bank of the Rhine. Cloud prevented immediate observation of the results. Flak was comparatively light from the target itself but grew heavy as the bombers approached and left the area. Neuss is a junction of many lines radiating out'towards various sectors of the Siegfried Line and also running from north to south behind the front.
