HUMIC COMPOST CLUB

Extension Of Activities

An extension of its activities to country districts is proposed by the Invercargill Humic Compost Club. At a meeting of the executive of the club a request ■ was received asking that a demonstration of building a compost heap be given at Otautau. It was stated that there were about 40 prospective members of the club in Otautau. The executive decided to hold a demonstration at Otautau on a date to be arranged and also to arrange for demonstrations in other country centres if requests for these were made.

It was decided to hold a demonstration of building a compost heap and of turning a heap on a vacant section in Liffey street opposite the Borstal Institute on Saturday afternoon. This demonstration was originally arranged for September 16, but had to be postponed because of unfavourable weather. It was reported that the first Dominion conference of representatives of compost clubs will be held in Wellington early in November. Mr D. W. Stalker was appointed to represent the Invercargill Club. Mr F. Rose was appointed to represent the club on the local council of the Dig for Victory Campaign organized by the Department of Agriculture.
