Fresh to Strong Winds
(Special) WELLINGTON, September 2S Following is the special forecast foi Southland issued by the Meteorological Office this evening for the period ending 5 p.m. tomorrow: — An intense anticyclone is centred on the North Island. A series oi westerly depressions is passing to the south of the South Island. Forecast: Fresh to strong westerly tc north-westerly winds. The weathei cloudy, with occasional rain in the western ranges and a few brief showers elsewhere. Temperatures moderate.
Apart from several sunny periods early in the afternoon, the weather in Invercargill yesterday was mild and overcast. Moderate • north-westerly winds varying to the west at times blew throughout the day. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold and overcast. The barometer reading was 30.23 in (falling). THE TIDES. —High water, Invercargill, 9.30 a.m., 9.59 p.m.; Bluff, 8.49 a.m.. 9.18 p.m.; Riverton, 7.49 a.m., 8.18 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 7.58 am., 8.27 p.m. THE SUN—Rises, 6.29 a.m., sets, 6.49 p.m.
