Knight Commander followed Maggiore and Gold Nugget over the last seven furlongs in the Kildare Hurdles. There was not much between them at the last hurdle, but Knight Commander beat Maggiore home decisively. Gold Nugget was six lengths back with Dividend leading the others. Colais followed Pensacola and Bridge Acre early in the Champagne Stakes. Pensacola was in trouble a furlong from the post and Colais beat Bridge Acre narrowly. Silvio, handy to the leaders from the start, was fourth. Lex, Chellow Dene. Salary and Bill Gundi had the Courtenay Handicap to themselves over the last furlong. The first-named pair finished an exciting battle with a dead heat and the other two were close up. Stavros was next. Gamble was the pacemaker in the Autumn Plate, but Voltaire, second most of the way, ran past in the straight for a very easy win. Honest Sal came from the tail of the field to cut Gamble out of second place. Chiding was fourth. Even Calm ran a poor race. Master Dash provided a surprise in the Great Easter Handicap, which he won in hollow fashion. The Champ was the pacemaker, Eulogist, Palora, Dinah Dhu, Te Awe Awe and Master Dash following him early. Justitia and Lord Advocate moved up at the half-mile post. The Champ was still showing the way at the false rail, but Master Dash then ran through, drawing away for a very easy win from Palora. Lord Advocate followed after another gap, then came Justitia, Te Awe Awe and The Champ. Tara King was next, never having been prominent. Blue Bonny was soon the leader in the Russley Handicap, but after being well clear starting the final furlong he tired and Piccolo overhauled him on the post. Hine Rei was only a head away with Beau Cheval coming from further back to be fourth. Gunga Din and Rawhamal were in front all the way to the straight in the Sockburn Handicap. Moutoa Bond drew out at the distance and won easily. Caithness stayed on to beat Lowry Bay for second. Rawhamai was fourth, then came Arctic Dawn, Sascha and Foxhaven. Renarde stayed on well to beat Maharajah in the first division of the Papanui Handicap after this pair had taken charge a furlong from the post. Full Chase and Home Rule were the pacemakers from Waltzing Matilda, but the first-named pair were beaten a furlong from home. Irish Note, always handy, stayed too well in the second division for Nurnle, who tried to win all the way. Lance Wing and Grand Forest were unlucky at the start.
