RUGBY TOUR AFTER THE WAR
Dominion Services’ Team The prospect of a New Zealand Services’ Rugby team being organized for the playing of a series of games when hostilities have ceased, as happened after the last war, is mentioned by the New Zealand Rugby Union in its annual report. Negotiations, it is stated, are already in hand with the authorities. “Wherever our Dominion has personnel in the services, Rugby is a feature of their recreational activities,” states the report. “From communications received the game and its players have been a keen topic of discussion, even in the heart of Africa.” The report adds that the New South Wales Rugby Union is desirous if a New Zealand Services’ team is organized as planned, that a series of games in Australia be included in the team’s engagements. Reference is also made in the report to the interest created by the inclusion of teams from the Navy, Army and Air Force in the competitions in various New Zealand centres and by the playing of special matches in which services’ teams participated.
