Commercial DUNEDIN MARKETS

(P.A.) DUNEDIN. June 26. Odd lines of milling wheat threshed from the stack are still arriving from the country and where the quality is satisfactory the wheat is being taken up by millers. Business continues quiet in the oats market, and as stocks are limited there is no immediate prospect of any volume of trade being done. The demand continues for good quality chaff, and North Island buyers arc operating. Few lots are, however, available for shipment. Business in potatoes is confined to the sale of small parcels to retailers from stocks in stores. It is generally expected that local merchants will have to draw on outside districts for supplies before the end of the year. Exporters of seeds were busy last week completing orders for shipment overseas, but business has quietened during the month. Less interest is being displayed in certified ryegrass, though the market remains steady. The cocksfoot market shows little change and the white clover and Montgomery red clover markets are, if anything, easier. WINTON HORSE SALE A horse sale, conducted at Winton on Friday by Wright, Stephenson and Co., drew an entry of about 30 mares and geldings. Good working horses, especially shatters, met with a fair demand, with restricted inquiry for unbroken and aged sorts. Top price for the sale was for an 8-year-old mare that brought £22/10/-, while a 5-year-old mare went for £2O. Another 8-year-old mare (registered) realized £l6/10/-, and a 9-year-old £l9/10/-. Among the geldings a 9-year-old brought £lB, a 6-year-old £l5, and an 8-year-old £l3. Aged team horses realized from £6 to £lO, and unbroken • sorts from £3 to £5. Though prices were limited, sales were effected of all entries except one that was long past work.
