OTAHUHU PUBLIC HALL DESTROYED
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 23. One of Otahuhu’s oldest landmarks, the public hall, was destroyed by fire at 2.30 this morning. The building was burning fiercely when - the brigade arrived and therefore all efforts were concentrated on saving three shops fronting the main street. and the adjoining buildings. A good save was made. All books belonging to the Otahuhu Public Library located in the hall were destroyed. The property was owned by the Elite Furnishing Company and the loss is estimated at £3OOO. The hall was built 80 years ago and the library was founded 63 years ago.
