NO TAXIS AT STATION

Confusion At Auckland (P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 24. Provision to prevent a recurrence of the situation which arose at the Auckland railway station this mornin, when passengers arriving by the early express from Wellington and the Limited express found there were no taxis to meet the trains, was made by the Auckland Taxi-cab Control Committee. The committee placed the onus on two companies operating in Auckland to provide sufficient cabs for the main passenger trains. When the trains arrived and no cabs were available for the passengers, a considerable amount of confusion was caused and the matter was officially reported to the chairman of the com-' mittee, Mr Lisle Aiderton. An extraordinary meeting of the committee was called during the afternoon. After the meeting Mr Aiderton said the committee had directed that public cabs were required to meet incoming trains on arrival. The responsibility was on two companies to provide cabs as follows: For the first express from Wellington, not fewer than 20 cabs; Limited express, not fewer than 30; first express from Rotorua, not fewer than 10; Taneatua express, Opua express and second express from Rotorua, not fewer than five in each case. Taxi-cabs directed to meet trains would be available for hire by incoming travellers and while so engaged would not be subject to the recent direction affecting hailing.
