KITTYHAWKS TO VISIT CITY

Demonstration Flights Proposed Six Kittyhawk aeroplanes will visit Invercargill on the occasion of the visit to the city of the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. This information was contained in a telegram which Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P., received from the Minister of Defence. the Hon. F. Jones, yesterday. Representations were recently made to the Minister asking that arrangements should be made to send Kittyhawks and bombers to the city to coincide with the visit of the band. In his telegram the Minister expressed regret that it was impossible to arrange for bombers to be sent. Final arrangements have not yet been made, but one of the present proposals is that the Kittyhawks should give a demonstration over the oity on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 13. It Is also proposed that on that afternoon the band should give a concert at the rotunda In Queen's Park. This should meet a request that has been received that the band should give an afternoon concert for the benefit of country people, who, because of the petrol ration, find It very difficult to get into town for evening entertainments. It is also hoped that the Kittyhawks will be available to fly over the city on the morning of Wednesday, October 14, on the occasion of the Air Force recruiting parade through the city. Members of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force from Dunedin will take part In this parade. Members of the Invercargill battalion of the Home Guard and of .the Lines of Communication Company will parade through tire city on the Wednesday evening and will march to the Civic Theatre. Here the parade will be dismissed so that Guardsmen may, if they wish, attend the concert that the band is to give in the theatre that night. Two bands will take part in the Home Guard parade. The Air Force band will also give a concert in the Civic Theatre on the evening of Monday, October 12, and on the Tuesday night it will provide the music for a dance. The personnel of the dance section of the band has been changed since the last visit of the band to Invercargill and It no longer specializes in swing music. The band Itself has been increased to 65 instruments.
