CHRISTIANS AND JEWS
Joint Council Formed (8.0.W.) RUGBY, September 30. The establishment of a Council of Christians and Jews is announced by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Moderator of the Free Church Federal Council and the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew congregations of the British Empire. A joint statement says: “The German Government has consistently placed anti-Semitism in the forefront of its efforts within every community to create division and disunity. AntiSemitism is repugnant to the moral principles common to Christianity and Judaism alike. We cannot afford to ignore the effects of the steady propagation of this evil.” Cardinal Arthur Hinsley, Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, endorses the condemnation of anti-Semitism and has joined the council as joint president to mark his strong protest against all persecution of the Jewish people.
