PATRIOTIC FUND
Southland Total Now £56,400 Contributions received in response to tjie distribution of envelopes last week have now reached a total of £6OO. Several business Arms have forwarded donations, but it was hoped that there would be a better response from the business community. The Scots hold an undisputed lead in the national entertainment effort, their supporters having contributed £93/19/2. The English supporters have given £4O/18/6, but the Irish have failed badly to show their generosity, only £5 having been sent in in response to the excellent broadcast entertainment last Saturday night. Contributions will still be accepted. Some substantial donations have been received during the last few days. They include the following:—Southland' share of Girl Guides’ collection, £223/1/-; art union proceeds, £3169/18/1; Traders’ Patriotic Committee (for sick and wounded fund), £45; Invercargill Philharmonic Choir, £5l/6/-; Technical College (for prisoners of war), £35/13/2. The following donations for comfort coupons have been received:— Mrs W. J- A. McGregor, £5O; Merrymakers’
concert party, £2O; Mrs Coster (Heiiot street). £10; Mrs E. Rance (Waimatuku), £10; Dr Stanley Brown, £10; Dr R. Bums Watson, £10; Dr J. G. Macdonald, £10; Dr C. C. Anderson, £10; Dr R. H. Howells, £10; Frank Holloway and Co., £lO/10/-; W. H. Bond (Mossbum), £lO.
