FORESTRY CONTEST

New Zealanders Lose Cup (Rec. 6,30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 27. The Australian forestry units defeated the New Zealanders by 26 points to 10 for the Ministry of Supply Axemen’s Cupi in a carnival at Dumfries. The New Zealanders, who are stationed in the south of England, won the cup last year and travelled north this year to defend it, with the High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan, and their commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Elliott. Sapper R. Grundy (Auckland) took the 12-inch standing block championship in 28 l-ssec and Sapper S. Barratt (Cambridge) was third in this event. Sapper J. T. Jackson (West Coast) was second in the 14-inch underhand championship. Sapper Grundy finished third in the 10-inch combination championship. Sappers D. H. O’Brien (Tuatapere) and O. Lodge (Karamea) won the 14-inch crosscut sawing. Mr Jordan after the carnival went to inspect the New Zealand torpedobombing and Beaufighter squadrons.
