IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER

The weather in Invercargill on Saturday was bitterly cold. Several heavy showers of rain fell during the morning accompanied by a boisterous westerly wind. Towards evening the wind abated slightly, but heavy rain fell. The weather was mild yesterday. The sun shone intermittently during the morning, but in the afternoon the sky became heavily overcast and light rain fell for the rest of the afternoon. The temperature was mild, however, and there was little wind. After another boisterous day on Saturday the weather cleared in Eastern Southland and yesterday was a typical spring day, the morning being beautifully fine. On Saturday heavy rain fell at intervals during the day, but it was apparent on Saturday night that conditions were improving. Some district rivers are running high, but all roads were reported to be clear yesterday.
