RED CROSS NEWS

After months of deliberations with the authorities controlling Voluntary Aids going overseas, Red Cross members throughout the Dominion will read with much satisfaction that in future Red Cross Voluntary Aids serving overseas or on hospital ships are to be recognized as such and will be Issued with a Red Cross brassard to be worn when necessary. This will clearly identify members as belonging to the International Red Cross Society. Next week the members of the Gladstone committee will be in charge of the depot in Esk street. The members of the Central committee will visit the hospital to help with the sewing. The society acknowledges with thanks donations from the following: Otautau subcentre, £5; Wairio combined railways ball (per Wairio Red Cross Society), £l2/17/9; Mrs G. Watt (Rlversdale), £1; W.E. Waikiwi Committee. —Members will meet for sewing on Thursday, August 27, at 2.30 pan., at the residence of Mrs P. A. Price, North road.

East Invercargill.—Members will meet for sewing on Thursday, August 27, at 2.15 p.m., in the Mitchell street kindergarten. North Invercargill.—Tills committee has completed five patchwork quilts. The committee thanks the pupils of the Middle school who worked tabs. As a result of a jumble sale and donations, £2O/12/3 has been paid into the centre. , Voluntary ' Aid Notices.—Home nursing classes will be held on Wednesday and Thursday evenings in the V.A. room at 7.15 p.m. A hygiene and sanitation class will meet today at 2.30 p.m. A Voluntary Aid detachment meeting will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. The detachment lecture will be held the same evening at 7.15.

Delegates are reminded of the meeting to be held in St. John’s hall on Saturday, August 29, at 11 ajn. Otahuti Sub-Centre. —Recently this branch conducted a bring-and-buy sale for local activities and general purposes. Altogether £7B resulted, of which £26 was collected by six girls, who made articles mostly out of scraps of materials given to them. Two or three boys gathered cones and sold them in Invercargill. The committee thanks all who assisted in making the sale so successful, and Mrs W. McKenzie, at whose home the children did all their sewing.
