Mrs A. E. H. Bath, Elies road, has returned from Christchurch. Mr and Mrs P. Malone left Dunedin this week to live at Riverton. Miss M. Rowley, Grey street, has returned from Hawea.

Miss Grace Basstian, Tweed street, is paying a short visit to Dunedin. Mrs S. Fitch, Waimate, is the guest of Mrs A. F. Speight, Redcliff. Mrs Graham King, The Bend, Winton, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs C. W. Price, Christchurch. Mrs J. B. Scott and her two children have returned to Wellington after being the guests of Mrs T. M. Rankin, Yarrow street. Mrs E. S. Winslow, Roxburgh, is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs T. M. Rankin, Yarrow street. Mrs S. P. Girdwood, who has been staying with Mrs R. N. Todd, Avenal, returned to Dunedin yesterday. Miss E. Baker, of the staff of St. John’s Girls’ School, has left to spend a holiday in Christchurch.

Misses Kitty and Molly Macpherson, Beatrice street, left yesterday to spend a holiday in Dunedin and Christchurch. Mrs George Geddes, St. Andrew street, and her small son, Richard, leave tomorrow night to spend a holiday in Timaru. Miss Ngaire Macalister, Christchurch, is spending the school holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs Alan Macalister, Wellesly Avenue.

Mrs A. Owen-Johnston, Wellesley avenue, will return tonight from a visit to Christchurch. She will be accompanied by her daughter, Mrs D. D. Lyness, Dunedin. Mrs A. H. J. Wyatt, Duke street, has been appointed secretary of the Gladstone Patriotic Committee in the absence of Mrs G. R. Milward. Miss Hilary Jones, Earnslaw street, will leave on Tuesday to spend a holiday as the guest of Mrs Terence Bridgeman, WanMrs M. P. Grace, Christchurch, came to Invercargill for the wedding of her sister, Miss Bernadette Derble, to Sergeant G. Henderson, which took place yesterday. Members of the S.G.H.S. Old Girls’ Association are reminded of the travel talk to be given by Mrs H. C. Mathew in the Southland Women’s Club on Thursday, August 27, at 7.45 p.m.—Advt. Mrs J. Stobo, Wellington street, was appointed president of the Southland branch of the League of Mothers at the annual meeting on Thursday. The retiring president, Mrs J. D. Campbell, was presented with a spray of spring flowers. Mrs J. Bradford, Waitoru, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs S. Bishop, O'Hara street. She will be a guest at the wedding today of Miss Monica Healy to SergeantMajor Frank Beadle. FAREWELL PARTIES At the Welcome Club, Mrs G. R. Milward, Duke street, who is a member of the ladies’ executive, was made a presentation of a sheaf of flowers by Mrs H. C. Mackenzie, the chairman, who wished Mrs Muward happiness in her new home at Christchurch. Mrs J. H. B. Scholefield and Mrs D. Stewart, Thomson street, were joint hostesses at afternoon tea during the week for Mrs Ken Clark, who is leaving shortly to live in Westport. Mrs S. A. Bell was hostess at afternoon tea at her home in Lewis street during the week in honour of Mrs Clark. Mrs H. R. Kingsland, Spey street, and Mrs J. M. McCrostie, Gladstone Terrace, were hostesses at afternoon tea parties during the week in honour of Mrs G, R. Milward, Duke street, who is leaving soon to live in Christchurch. CHILD STUDY CLASS

The child study class in Invercargill, under the auspices of the W.E.A., had its twelfth and final lecture for the season this week. The meetings were well attended and next year it is hoped that another group will be formed early in April. The 30 members who attended the lectures this year may form a more advanced group. The classes were under the tutorship of Mrs H. C. Mathew, who commented on the enthusiasm of the members and said that the time devoted each night to questions and discussion was as important as the talk. WOMEN’S AUXILIARY Canteen Group.—Mrs Corkill will‘be at the office on Friday, August 28, from 12.30 to 2.30 p.m. Area No. 1 will be on duty at the waste paper depot on Friday, August 28. Area No. 10 will be on duty at the field kitchen today. Transport and Plunket Aid Groups.—Miss Basstian will be at the office on August 25 and 28, from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m., and Mrs Anderson will be at the office from 1.30 to 2.30 p.m. on those dates. Transport members wishing to join the mechanics class should ring Miss Basstian (No. 590).
