HEAVY FROSTS LAST MONTH
14 DEGREES YESTERDAY 1 The heaviest frost for the year was . recorded in Invercargill yesterday r morning, when 14 degrees were regis- , tered. The day was fine and sunny, . but the temperature was not warm 3 enough to thaw the frost under trees • and in shady places. Plumbers had a ’ busy time at the week-end restoring water services dislocated by the cold f weather. , , x _ j Although the frosts on the last four . mornings have been heavy, they were ’ by no means exceptional. On Saturday morning 10 degrees were recorded, on Friday morning there were seven den grees and Thursday’s reading was nine L degrees. The first frost for the month was registered on May 21, four degrees | being recorded. a I . 17 DEGREES AT GORE
Many burst pipes and frozen taps were reported at Gore at the week-end when the heaviest frosts this winter were experienced. On Saturday morning 15 degrees were registered, and although a bright sunny day followed the atmosphere in the shade was very chilly. It was evident that another heavy frost would be experienced yesterday morning and 17 degrees weie recorded. With the shortage of plumbers at the present time householders may have to put up with considerable inconvenience if the frosty weather continues.
