FIRST CATHOLIC TECHNICAL SCHOOL

(PA) GREYMOUTH, May 31. The first Catholic technical school in i New Zealand was opened today at Greymouth. Bishop Brodie congratulated the Marist Brothers on the completion of a substantial building fully equipped in the face of war difficulties. The rector stated that the venture was necessitated by the fact that Marist ’ pupils were prevented by the Education Department’s regulations from obtainI ing State technical part-time instruction. ~ , . Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., said that more than 25,000 children in Catholic schools and 680 teachers saved the Government £480,000 a year. He would endeavour to have these schools subsidized.
