MEETING OF LIMEHILLS FARMERS’ UNION

Unanimous support was accprded the request of the Southland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union for a district survey of the coming season's production of wheat, oats and linen flax at the annual meeting of the Limehills branch of the union. Mr F. E. Carter, provincial organizer, addressed the meeting and referred to the urgent need for definite knowledge of any problems which might prevent the fulfilment of what was in effect a major war effort. To overcome individual difficulties among the producers, it was essential to avoid generalities and work from a basis of the certain knowledge of individual requirements. If this information is to hand at this stage, the danger of problems becoming acute and adversly affecting the war effort could be avoided. The problems of transport, corn sacks and labour shortage were discussed and it was decided to ask the Provincial Executive to investigate the position of corn sacks for next season. A member stated that the supplies had previously been drawn from Africa, but as there was a danger of this supply being stopped, the question should be one of urgency. The chairman introduced the subject of the Liberty Loan and suggested that the branch could do well as a gesture to all concerned by making a small contribution to the appeal. After some discussion the meeting unanimously agreed to take £2O worth of bonds.

The election of officers resulted as folows:—President, Mr J. D. Henderson; viceresidents, Messrs T. Gerrard and A. Henf.rson; secretary, Mr F. W. Dunlop.
