KEEN DEMAND FOR HOUSES
MANY SALES IN CITY THIS MONTH The demand for houses to buy or to rent continues to be keen in Invercargill, according to a city land agent yesterday. This had been a particularly good month for sales, he said, and there was a steady inquiry for new bungalows selling at from £lOOO ,to £l3OO. Houses of an old type were not in demand, and it was difficult to effect sales of them. For houses of a desirable type prices were remaining firm on the high level which had been ruling recently. Although. more houses were coming on to the market, the demand was still unsatisfied. As married men were being drafted to camp some wives were closing their homes and offering them for renting so that they could go to another centre to be near their husbands. If this practice continued it might become easier to secure houses for renting, but there were still more unsatisfied tenants than houses.
