OBITUARY
MR R. G. J. WILSON
Mr Richard George John Wilson, who died in Dunedin on Tuesday evening, was well known in Invercargill, especially among railwaymen. Mr Wilson was bom in Invercargill in 1886 and joined the Railways Department at Invercargill in 1903. In 1910 he was transferred for a few months to Dunedin. He returned to Invercargill in 1911 and in 1915 went on active service. He was attached to the hospital ship Maheno, and on his return in 1919 resumed duty with the Railways Department at Invercargill. In 1920 he was transferred to Wellington and the following year came back to Invercargill. His next transfer was to the district engineer’s office in Dunedin in 1925, and in 1932 he was sent to Wellington, where he was employed as chief clerk in the New Zealand Railways Lands Office until September 1940, when he was appointed chief clerk in the district engineer’s office, Dunedin.
Mr Wilson was not married. For a good number of years he lived with his aunt, Miss E. Domigan. Biggar street. Many years ago his father owned a grocery business in Invercargill, the shop being on the old Arcade corner in Tay street. Mr Wilson was a member of the contingent of New Zealand returned soldiers which visited Australia in 1936 for the Anzac Day ceremony.
