HAND GRENADES FOR HOME GUARD

A sample of a hand grenade it is proposed to manufacture for the Home Guard in Group 12A was on display at a meeting of the Group 12A Citizens’ Offence Committee held at Gore last night. Authority was given the Works Committee to go ahead and obtain a considerable number of these grenades. It was stated that cast iron and aluminmum were required for the manufacture of the grenades, and it was decided to make an appeal throughout the group for these materials.

In reporting on the activties of the committee the chairman, Mr F. Wallis, said that the committee was well satisfied with the progress being made and with the active cooperation in evidence from all sections of the Home Guard in the group. Financial help was, of course, necessary and the committee proposed to cover all districts of the group and approach the public for assistance.

The financial statement presented to the meeting showed that of £3104 promised £2986 had been received. The expenditure', to date totalled £306 and the balance in hand was £2680.
