MR CURTIN REPLIES TO GENERAL TO JO

(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 27. Addressing the Japanese Diet in Tokyo, the Prime Minister, General Hideki Tojo, said Australia must reconsider her attitude and take part in the construction of “Greater East Asia” or suffer the onslaught of the Japanese forces. “It is Japan’s inflexible determination never to sheath the sword until the influence of the Anglo-American powers with their dream of world domination is completely uprooted,” he said. The Australian Prime Minister, Mr John Curtin, has replied. “In Australia we play Test matches to a finish,” he said. “Tojo started this Test match.”
